40+ years of combined experience within the core team behind Preseem spent defining, building, architecting and managing mission-critical networking products, deployed in some of the largest Internet Service Providers in the world. It was during their last stint at one of world’s largest network equipment manufacturer that the team learned to work well together and, most importantly, discovered how much they liked working together.
And more – conceptualizing, debating, writing code, implementing, testing, deploying and continously improving the software platform behind Preseem. Add 8000 cups of coffee or more on top of that along with valuable time spent on market research and concept testing with stakeholders across the networking industry. Preseem is a service, promise, and commitment from us with simplicity, efficiency & profitability built in. This isn’t the end of a story. It’s the start of our journey. We’ll continue to listen to you, learn and go back to work and build Preseem into something which is valuable to you every day as an internet service provider or networking engineer.
Preseem by Aterlo Networks is powered by an agile and passionate team of engineers, computer programmers, and business managers with a vision to become a global networking solutions provider.
The Wireless Summary
Preseem’s wireless summary offers an at-a-glance view of your network’s Quality of Experience (QoE) performance across access points and towers.
What WISPs are Saying About the Wireless Summary
Senior Wireless Technician
@Washington-based WISP with 3000+ customers
“Yes, yes, yes, Preseem’s wireless summary is awesome. Wireless summary is the first thing I look at when I start my job every day”
@Virginia-based WISP with 5000+ customers
“The wireless summary presents a very interesting view of the APs. Importantly, this got us interested in your overall QoE monitoring platform”
@Wisconsin-based WISP with 3100+ customers
“Thanks for using our feedback to build this. The wireless summary seems really cool. Great addition to the Preseem platform. I like it a lot.”
Pinpoint the source of QoE issues in your network
Why Your Network Needs the Wireless Summary
Wireless Summary provides the QoE information you need to improve your network’s performance, easily and effectively
What Kind of QoE Issues Can The Wireless Summary Help You Find?
- Congestion due to overloading
- Reduced capacity due to interference
- Poor signal strength to end user causing lower throughput for the entire sector
- Backhaul/ transit congestion affecting APs
- Reduced capacity due to bad weather
- MicroPOPs overloading an AP
- Plan enforcement shapers adding high latency
- Subscribers with connectivity issues resulting in high latency
See Real-World Access Point Comparisons
Real-world AP performance doesn’t always match the vendor’s marketing numbers. Preseem combines real-world performance metrics from across our customer base so you can see how your APs perform relative to your peers, allowing you to identify under-performing or overloaded APs.
Preseem uses data collected daily from tens of thousands of access points to chart the performance of each AP model. This provides an accurate picture of what the AP should be capable of.
Alasdair MacLeod, Head of Infrastructure
Quickline, A Leading UK-based Wireless Internet Service Provider
“One of the most interesting metrics Preseem has brought to the table is visibility into the performance of our APs. This has allowed us to compare our AP performance against the global average performance of the same AP model and configuration as deployed by other users. This has helped us understand how hard we are pushing our gear, and highlighted areas where we had to perform additional tuning in order to maximize throughput and minimize latency.”
Subscriber Plan Optimization
Preseem uses AQM techniques to enforce subscriber bandwidth limits and to manage streaming video and other high-bandwidth applications while improving your subscriber QoE. Preseem’s subscriber QoE optimization, based on FQ-CoDel, allows interactive flows like VoIP, gaming & DNS to get through smoothly without being affected by bulk flows like streaming video and large Windows downloads.
Access Point Optimization
Given Preseem’s understanding of your wireless network topology, Preseem can implement advanced Active Queue Management (AQM) based QoE optimization at the access point level. This ensures that all customers get good Internet experience even if the demand on the access point is over its capacity.
“Preseem’s platform takes all the guesswork out of traffic shaping, it just works!”
Mark Petrocchi, AlignTec (WISP from Durango, CO)
Almost All WISPs Enforce Subscriber Plans.
How That’s Done Matters. A Lot.
Typically done in
Can lead to issues like
These tools use simple queuing techniques which allow heavy applications like streaming video to negatively impact the performance of interactive applications or other users.
– Use simple queuing techniques which allow heavy applications like streaming video to negatively impact the performance of interactive applications or other users – Incapable of subscriber-aware policies such as multi-site bandwidth limits.
Application-aware Traffic Management Tools
– Require constant tweaks to adapt to changing application – Declining utility due to increasing amount of encrypted traffic – High cost due to inherent complexity – Often requires arbitrarily selected bandwidth limits
Optimizing QoE Makes All the Difference
Preseem’s QoE Optimized Shaping for access points & subscribers makes your wireless network more efficient, effective & profitable
Preseem automatically shapes bulk flows like Netflix to make room for interactive flows like VoIP and Gaming to go through. This takes care of any lag, buffering or internet-feeling-slow issues for your subscribers, especially when someone in the house is doing a bulk download or HD streaming.
Per-flow fairness and optimization ensure that multiple users in the household can use the allocated bandwidth in an optimum manner for everything from streaming video to VoIP calls while getting a good QoE. This reduces the number of support calls and costs associated with your technician’s valuable time and field visits.
Preseem’s AQM techniques, per-flow prioritization, and access point-level bandwidth management solutions allow better link utilization and help you delay costly network investments. You can also save on the unnecessary purchase of additional bandwidth to fix access point congestion and ‘internet-feeling-slow’ problems.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Learn more about Preseem’s QoE optimized shaping or contact us if you have any questions.
What is FQ-CoDel?
The FlowQueue-CoDel (FQ-CoDel) algorithm is a combined packet scheduler and Active Queue Management (AQM) algorithm developed as part of the bufferbloat-fighting community effort. It’s a result of major innovations coming out of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) in the last couple of years. More details and technical information is available here.
Does Preseem do L7 inspection?
No, Preseem does not do layer 7 inspection. Preseem leverages advanced active queue management (AQM) techniques to improve deliver a great subscriber experience even in the presence of congestion without the complexity and cost associated with layer 7 inspection.
